Obadiah Sedgwick: Proclaiming Hope for the Humble

Born: c. 1600, Marlborough, England
Died: January 1658, Marlborough, England

Obadiah Sedgwick was a bold and compassionate Puritan preacher known for bringing gospel hope to brokenhearted sinners. A gifted expositor and member of the Westminster Assembly, he faithfully ministered during the English Civil War.

Sedgwick pastored churches in London and Essex, advised Parliament, and preached before soldiers and statesmen. At the heart of his ministry was a concern for the soul weighed down by sin. His teaching called sinners to repentance, warned against error, and upheld Christ as the soul’s only refuge.
