Thomas Watson: Bringing Heaven to Heart

Born: c. 1620, Yorkshire, England
Died: 1686, Barnston, Essex, England

Thomas Watson combined deep theological insight with vivid illustrations and a heartwarming pastoral voice. Educated in Cambridge, he became one of London’s most beloved Puritan preachers. His works remain cherished for their beauty and power, written not just to inform the mind, but to stir the heart toward godliness.

Though removed from his pastorate in 1662 for refusing to conform to the Church of England, Watson continued preaching—first in private homes, then publicly at Crosby Hall. He endured imprisonment, personal loss, and public rejection—but he never wavered in his devotion to Christ or the care of souls.
