William Gouge: Preparing Saints for the Fight of Faith

Born: 1575, Middlesex, England
Died: 1653, London, England

William Gouge was a leading Puritan pastor and author whose ministry in London lasted over four decades at St. Ann Blackfriars. As a member of the Westminster Assembly, he played a central role in restructuring the Church of England after the English Civil War.

His preaching, scholarship, and parenting all flowed from one desire: that God’s people would walk in truth. His biblical writing—clear, warm, and practical—continues to disciple Christians toward holiness, courage, and prayerful communion with God.
