About the Author
Christopher Love didn’t just preach the gospel—he lived and died by it. A passionate Welsh Puritan with a heart for truth, Love ministered during the chaos of the English Civil War, when loyalties were divided and convictions were tested. His bold stand wasn’t for a political party, but for the Lordship of Christ and the authority of His Word.
He refused to compromise on biblical worship and ordination, often preaching with a fire that exposed error and called hearts to repentance. His sermons, shaped by suffering and conviction, always pointed to Christ as the anchor for weary souls and the sure foundation of the church. Even in his final hours, Love’s joy in Christ shone brightly, sealing his testimony as a faithful witness who counted no cost too great for the truth.

The worse the place or family is where God has cast your dwelling, the better and more blameless you should labor to be. You will by this adorn your profession, stop the mouths of adversaries, and allure and win others to embrace Christianity. We must be “blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, amongst whom ye shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15). Stars shine brightest in a dark night, and fire burns hottest in a cold and frosty day. So should your star of profession shine brightest in dark places where you live, and the fire of your zeal burn hottest in cold times, when the love of many waxes cold.(p. 10)
