Jonathan Edwards: Herald of Sovereign Grace and Revival

Born: October 5, 1703, East Windsor, CT
Died: March 22, 1758, Princeton, NJ

Though not technically a Puritan, Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758) is often called “America’s greatest theologian” and considered the final echo of Puritanism in the New World. A preacher, philosopher, missionary, and president of Princeton, he helped ignite the Great Awakening with depth, conviction, and clarity and famously delivered the sermon: “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.”

Edwards combined revival preaching with a lifelong commitment to doctrinal precision and Christ-centered vision. In an age of spiritual confusion, Edwards offers pastors, students, and thoughtful readers a voice of stability, depth, and unwavering biblical truth.
